PPP-1: Basic Brushfire Operations
BASIC BRUSHFIRE OPERATIONS is an awareness-level course designed to provide the recruit firefighter (with little of no firefighting experience) a basic familiarity with the tools, safety procedures, and tactics commonly used when responding to a brush fire alarm. This program will help your recruits participate in brushfire alarms in your jurisdiction, or provide an annual refresher for your whole department. Topics covered include safety procedures, PPE, brush apparatus, pumps, wildland tools, fire behavior, and tactics. Meets the requisite knowledge requirements of NFPA 1001, section 3-3.18 . PPP-4: Operating Wildland Engines
OPERATING WILDLAND ENGINES is an intermediate-level course concerning driving, operating, and maintaining your agency’s wildland firefighting apparatus. Knowledge of basic emergency vehicle operation and of wildland firefighting is assumed. The student is provided with vocabulary, concepts, and practices required by NFPA 1002 chapter 6. When combined with PPP-3, this course provides all JPR’s required for qualification as Wildland Fire Driver/Operator as defined by NFPA 1002. Topics covered include a review of defensive driving techniques, basic hydraulics, positioning, pre- and post-operation checks specific to wildland apparatus, and offroad driving techniques.
